PRIVACY NOTICE
We collect no personal information about you when you visit our website
unless you choose to provide this information to us. However, we collect
and store certain information automatically. Here is how we handle information
about your visit to our website.
What We Collect and Store Automatically
If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the website, read
pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information
about your visit automatically. This information does not identify you
personally. We automatically collect and store only the following information
about your visit:
1. The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use
a private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you
connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a
number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are
surfing the Web) from which you access our website;
2. The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
3. The date and time you access our site;
4. The pages you visit; and
5. If you linked to our website from another website, the address of that
website.
We use the information we collect to count the number and type of visitors
to the different pages on our site, and to help us make our site more
useful to visitors like you.
If You Send Us E-mail
You may choose to provide us with personal information, as in e-mail
with a comment or question. We use the information to improve our service
to you or to respond to your request. Except for authorized law enforcement
investigations, we do not share our e-mail with any other outside organizations.
If You Give Us Your E-mail Address
You may choose to provide us with your e-mail address in order to receive
feedback on the results of a research study, to be notified of a future
study, to be notified when some new training is available, or for some
other reason. We do not share, sell, or otherwise divulge your e-mail
address with anyone, except for authorized law enforcement investigations.
If you Take Part in a Research Study
If you volunteer to take part in one of our research studies, you may
be asked to supply some background information. Typically, this will include
information on your pilot certificates, flying experience, and some demographic
information such as age, education, and state of residence.
If You Complete an On-Line Training Course
If you complete one of the on-line training courses, you may be asked
to complete an after-training evaluation form. You may also be asked for
some background information. This would be done if the training course
requires some information in order to tailor the course to your specific
needs. For example, if you are not an instrument-rated pilot, then the
training course might not give you information relevant to instrument
flight.
Your Responses are Anonymous
WE NEVER ASK FOR YOUR NAME OR PERSONALLY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION. We
have no need to know who you are, and we definitely DO NOT want to know
your name, pilot certificate number, or anything else that could be used
to identify you.
Using a Call Sign
When you take part in a research study or compete some of the training,
you may be asked to select a Call Sign. The Call Sign can be any word
or phrase that you choose. We may use the Call Sign to link your responses
to one or more of the research studies to the training courses. For example,
we might want to see how well pilots perform on the training course after
they have taken part in one of the research studies. To do that, we would
use the Call Sign. This lets us match your responses across different
activities, while preserving your anonymity.
Your Participation is Voluntary
Your participation in the research studies or other activities on this
web site is completely voluntary. You may decline to participate and you
may, at any time and for any reason, elect to withdraw from a study in
which you are taking part. Further, you may elect to not respond to individual
questions contained in any of the research studies.
How We Will Use and Report Information You Provide
The information you provide, both through the on-line training and research
studies, will be used in scientific studies. These studies might include,
for example, evaluating the effectiveness of the training, or exploring
how responses to questions in one of the research studies relate to involvement
in aviation close-calls. Data from these studies will be reported in an
aggregated form, such that no person could be associated with their responses.
Your participation in the studies indicates your consent to our use of
your data as described here.
We will adhere strictly to the standards for the ethical treatment of
research subjects published by the American Psychological Association.
